A QUIET DOSE
Grab a "slow-looking" map and explore the galleries at your own pace. Timers are available in the sensory kits by the entry to the Discovery Gallery if you would like one.

A CREATIVE DOSE
Supplies are available in the Discovery Gallery for you to create a sculpture or a collage, or feel free to take a clipboard and paper and wander into the museum galleries to sketch.

A MUSICAL DOSE
Stop by the front desk to check out wireless headphones to listen to a curated mindfulness playlist while you peruse the galleries. Grab a set list to learn more about the artists you are hearing.
Art Rx
Welcoming students to their creative pause at The Dennos.
What is ArtRx?
ArtRx is a new well-being initiative for NMC students started by The Dennos! Academic advisors, success coaches, and counselors give physical "ArtRx" cards to students who are experiencing academic stress, burnout, or life transitions and students bring the cards to The Dennos for a restorative break or bit of creative inspiration. Similar programs are popping up on campuses all around the world.
It gives students a tangible, low-barrier "permission slip" to step away from academic stress and recharge.
Who is it for?
Any NMC student navigating:
- Academic stress, burnout, or midterm/final fatigue
- Life transitions, isolation, or feelings of disconnectedness
- A need for reflection, mindfulness, or creative inspiration
- Not just for art students, think outside the box
How the ArtRx check-in station works
Near the museum store entrance you will see an ArtRx sign featuring three drop boxes. Students will follow these steps:
-
Drop their ArtRx card into one of three designated boxes based on the experience ("dose") they choose:
- A Quiet Dose // Self-guided reflection using a "slow looking" map.
- A Creative Dose //Hands-on artmaking (sculpture or collage) and exploration in the Discovery Gallery or sketching out in the galleries.
- A Musical Dose // Listening to a curated playlist while exploring the galleries.
- Pick up their mindfulness toolkit, any other supplies and enjoy their museum break.
- They can choose to stay as long as they like, to do another dose, or change doses at any time. When they are ready to leave, they will return any borrowed supplies or equipment but the mindfulness bags are theirs to take home. They include a postcard with a survey reflection.
Why does it matter?
- Arts engagement is proven to lower stress, combat isolation, and boost academic persistence.
- It ddirectly supports NMC’s Strategic Plan goals of Student Success and Campus Vibrancy.
- It is non-clinical, low-barrier, and completely free for students.
