NMC Student Art Exhibition

May 10 — June 1, 2024

The NMC Art Department is pleased to announce an expanded student show this year, with juried work from both Northwestern Michigan College students along with selected artwork from regional high school students.

Jess Nagel
Charlevoix, MI

Jess Nagel is a 2009 graduate of the NMC Visual Communications Program. She started her career shortly after graduation at Britten Studios working in sales and design before transplanting to Chicago for almost eight years. While in Chicago she worked as a Marketing Manager and an in-house Creative Director for various food ingredient companies. During the 2020 shutdown while working from her childhood home in Northern Michigan, she rediscovered her love for the area and moved back to start her grab n' go food and specialty grocery and gift market, J.bird Provisions in Charlevoix MI.

Liz Celeste
Traverse City, MI

Liz is the Curator of Education and Exhibitions at the Dennos Museum, and has an extensive background in academic museums and galleries. She previously held positions at Stanford University as their Assistant Curator and Programming Director for the Department of Art, and served as Deputy Director of Exhibitions and Programs for the Ohio State University’s Urban Arts Space. Liz thoroughly enjoys mentoring students, forging academic connections on campus and developing interdisciplinary programs. She is inspired by the remarkable ability of campus museums to stimulate conversations within the broader community and encourage positive action towards deeper learning. When she is not at the museum, you can find Liz out hiking with her family, throwing dirt around in the garden or experimenting with new methods for creating work with Polaroid negatives.

Join us on Wednesday, May 15th at 5:30 PM for a reception and awards ceremony. View the exhibition, and meet us back in the Zimmerman Sculpture Court for remarks at 6:00 PM.
