"We had such an outpouring of community support for this event last year that it is back by popular demand.  Last year the show was sold out," said Emily Magner, manager of NMC's Student Life office. The show will feature women ranging from high school age to their 60s.

V-Day Traverse City is sponsored by NMC Student Life as well as Third Level Crisis Center. V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls through benefit productions of "The Vagina Monologues" and other artistic works. In 2012, more than 5,800 V-Day benefit events took place. This year's V-Day events included the One Billion Rising movement, which occurred in 207 countries. Tens of thousands of events, including one in Traverse City, were held on Valentine's Day in the biggest global action ever to end violence against women and girls.

All performance proceeds will go to the V-Day spotlight organization as well as the local Women's Resource Center, organizations which work to stop violence towards women globally and locally.

For 37 years, the Women's Resource Center has worked to end domestic and sexual violence in the Grand Traverse area. The agency has grown from a handful of committed volunteers to a staff of 45 professionals covering five counties, three satellite offices, a 24-hour emergency shelter, three transition homes and a retail thrift shop..
