Wan Liya Lecture

Wan LiyaIn a collaboration between the Museum and the Fine Arts Department at Northwestern Michigan College, Wan Liya, one of the artists featured in the Breaking the Mold: Contemporary Chinese and Japanese Ceramic Sculpture exhibition, will be in residence working with students of ceramics, painting and art history at NMC from September 21 through 27, 2009.   Liya will give a presentation on his work and the Chinese art world to close the Breaking the Mold exhibition on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at 2:00 pm at the Dennos Museum Center.  The Art Center of Traverse City will be offering a workshop with Wan Liya on October 3, 2009.  

Wan Liya delights in creating experimental art by taking the familiar and looking at it in different ways.  Wan's work has been described as imaginative, highly erotic and daring, and sometimes extremely funny.
