Volunteer

The museum has a strong tradition of support from volunteers. Currently there are approximately 160 volunteers working in nearly every department of the Museum, providing services to visitors and assisting the professional staff behind the scenes. Volunteering is a great way to meet new and interesting people, learn more about art, and support the Museum. See details below for more information.

Reception Desk

These volunteers answer visitor questions, give directions and provide information about the programs, events and activities of the Dennos Museum Center. Contact Judy Albers at jalbers@nmc.edu

Docents

Docents are trained guides who provide tours and other welcoming and educational services to school children, families, and adults. Volunteers in this area are asked to make a two-year commitment that includes an on-going training program which meets weekly during the months of September through early June. For more information and to sign-up on-line, refer to our Docents page.

Museum Education Assistants

Education Department Volunteers work independently and in committees on special projects with the Curator of Education.  We currently need Education Department volunteers to help with Family Days (a great opportunity for families to volunteer together), the Toddler Program, and to Usher Educational Concerts and Workshops. A desire to benefit the museum and the ability to work independently are the only qualifications.

Museum Store

Museum Store volunteers assist in all aspects of retail operation. Customer service, store merchandising and cleaning, and receiving and pricing new merchandise are some of the duties for this corps of volunteers. Contact Terry Tarnow at ttarnow@nmc.edu

Museum Library

These volunteers assist with cataloging, filing and circulation of library materials.

Hospitality

Hospitality volunteers plan and host receptions for exhibition openings and various Dennos Museum Center social functions. Inventorying reception supplies, setting up and decorating reception areas, serving food and beverages, and clean-up are all part of the Hospitality Committee's function. Gallery Guards

For special exhibitions, volunteers are needed to watch over the Museum galleries. Contact Judy albers at jalbers@nmc.edu
