Collections
Welcome to the Permanent Collection of the Dennos Museum Center.
While it is not practical for us to show you all the works in
our ever-growing collection, we have presented highlights that
represent our major areas of specialization.
The Dennos Museum Center's Inuit art collection boasts one of
the largest and most historically complete public collections
of contemporary sculpture, prints and drawings by the Inuit artists
of the Canadian Arctic to be found in the United States. This
major collection is permanently showcased in the Power Family
Inuit Gallery, where the works are presented in new exhibitions
annually.
A growing collection of outdoor sculptures by noted international
and Michigan artists can be found on the museum grounds and throughout
the NMC campuses.
The balance of the museum's collections includes a diverse array
of painting, sculpture and photography. Significant holdings
include 19th and 20th century American and European graphic art,
18th and 19th century Japanese prints, and 20th century Great
Lakes Indian and Canadian Indian art. The art collections are
shown on a rotating basis as part of the museum's changing exhibitions.
Hands on fun for children and adults alike while learning about art and science is the purpose of the museum's Discovery Gallery. The gallery offers the opportunity to create an ever changing video painting, play a sound wall or laser harp, distort your face in many directions on a computer screen, peer into the eyepiece of a holographic microscope and explore the universe with programming from the Hubble Space Telescope Institute.
