A Million Dollar Photo?
A Rare Edward Weston Photograph from the Museum's Collection

Exhibit Dates: June 26 - October 5, 2008
While the Dennos Museum Center was under construction in 1989, Jack and
Ann Ozegovic gifted a vintage photograph by Edward Weston signed and dated
1925. They donated the work with the consent of Judith March Davis, who
had given the work to the Ozegovics from the estate of her father, Benjamin
March.
On April 7, 2008 in New York City, Sotheby's auctioned a print of what
they catalogued as one of three known images of this photo for a record
$1.6 million. The print was from the Quillan collection. At the time of
the auction Sotheby's was not aware of this important work in the collections
of the Dennos Museum Center. The only other museum collection known to
hold this image is the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
According to Sotheby's, this is one of only four photographic images to
sell for over $1 million at auction, but each photo, while printed from
the same negative, can be different in quality and condition. How does
the Dennos image compare to the one they sold?
