Self-Guided Tours

Self-guided tours are available anytime during open hours. These tours allow students to explore the museum independently through available worksheets and writing activities. Clipboards and pencils are available for loan at the front desk.

In order to accommodate a guided tour a minimum of 2 weeks notice is necessary. Call (231) 995-1029 or use our online tour request form to book a tour.

Group admission rates:

  • $4/student
  • teachers and aides admitted free
  • one chaperone for every 10 students admitted free, all others charged $6/person
  • Art projects are offered with guided tours for the additional cost of $1/student

Suggested activities for self-guided visits

Writing Activities
Have students complete these writing activities to focus their attention on the looking process.

Sketching in the Galleries
Bring drawing paper, boards and pencils and sketch works in the galleries or the museum spaces. Follow a theme or technique for a more meaningful experience.

Elements of Art Cards
Print and distribute these cards to individuals or small groups. Direct card holders to find a good example of each element of art and principle of design in the galleries. Have them explain their choice with the group.

Inuit Printmakers
The Dennos Museum Center houses an impressive collection of prints by Inuit Masters. Print and distribute this guide for an experience that focuses on learning more about the artists.
